Semadoh Lake in Amravati
The Amravati district of Maharashtra has got a mixed terrain of craggy hills and plain lands. The region has been criss-crossed by many rivers and lakes, thus helping in the overall agricultural and industrial development. Many of these lakes are being converted into beautiful tourist locations by the state tourism department.
Semadoh Lake is one of the most popular lakes of the district. Located in the forests of Chikhaldara in the Melghai tehsil of Amravati, this beautiful stretch of water body is a part of a small forest village placed just adjacent to the Gugamal National Park. Travelers visiting the national park can also enjoy this awesome natural lake with rides and entertainment facilities provided by the forest department. There are admirable facilities for angling too. Tourists can enjoy a lazy boat ride among the jungle atmosphere and if lucky, they can have some animal sightings too. For angling or fishing one can hire boats, hooks, reels, baits and fishing nets to enjoy a quiet afternoon.
The distance between Chikaldhara and Semadoh is about 25 kilometers, that is a connected by good road and this itself becomes much of a pleasure ride for many. The road runs through deep forested area and is best enjoyed during a winter ride along the stretch. The drive is worth it since there are high possibilities to sight various wild animals like deer, wild boars, gaurs and sometimes a few wolves.
The birds are in a plenty and peacock is almost a common sight beside the road. On reaching the lake, one can set camp by its shores, to enjoy the silence of the beautiful Semadoh lake by the night. During earlier part of the day, people can also embark on trekking to explore the forests. Some of the nearby places that can be explored are the Panchbol Point and the Crossland Roman Catholic Church.
