Healthcare Facilities in Amravati
From centuries of historical backdrop, Amravati district today has grown as a major district of Maharashtra, as a forerunner in development. Amravati has grown leaps and bounds over the recent years to compete with the advanced cities of Maharashtra. Healthcare system has also grown from medicines and treatments used by the village Vaidyas to formal medicines, like Allopathy and Homeopathy. Ayurvedic treatment has also become very popular among the present day urban population.

The British administration came up many good general hospitals to help the poor and needy with free medicine. Since 1906, Amravati has seen various hospitals coming up, which resulted in 19 general hospitals by 1960-61.
At present Amravati district has two government district hospitals, one of which is only catering to all the feminine and child healthcare issues. These hospitals have their own blood banks present. Many rural hospitals and primary health centres are also formed to help the small remote villages of the district. There are approximately 56 free health centres present in Amravati. Few mobile health units are also present.
A lot of private players have also put in efforts to establish competent medical facilities and hospitals in Amravati. There are world class multi speciality hospitals present, who are working with the aim of bringing high standard of medical care for the public along with medical research facilities. Amravati district has also got its own Cancer hospitals.
With so many medical facilities coming up, Amravati has got a serious problem of bio medical waste generation. The bio medical waste management policy formed by the government of India is not very strongly present in the district, leading to many health hazards.
